Simple Tomato Rasam

2-3 Servings ~ 10-15 Minutes
  • 1 Medium Tomato - Roughly chopped
  • ¾ -1 Tsp Rasam Powder
  • ¼ Tsp Pepper Powder (Optional)
  • ¼ Tsp Cumin Powder (Optional)
  • ½ Tsp Sugar
  • 3-4 Curry Leaves
  • ½ Tsp Asafoetida
  • 2-3 Tbsp Chopped Coriander
  • ¼ Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 Tbsp of Tamarind Pulp (¼ Cup of thin extract of Tamarind Juice)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tsp Oil

Simple Tomato Rasam

Method:

– In a mixer add the tomatoes, rasam, pepper and cumin powders along with salt , sugar and tamarind pulp. Grind into a fine paste.
– Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan. Splutter mustard seeds.
– Add Curry leaves and Asafoetida.
– Pour in the Tomato paste & 2-3 Cups of water; allow boiling.
– Add the Coriander leaves and let boil for 2-3 minutes on low flame.
– Remove from flame. Serve hot with Rice or drink as a soup.
