2 Servings ~ 10 minutes
  • 1 Cup Beaten rice/ Poha (medium thickness)
  • 1 big Onion (Finely Chopped)
  • 3-4 Green chillies (Finely Chopped)
  • 3-4 Tbsp Peanuts
  • 1 Tsp Urad Dal
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric (optional)
  • 6-8 Curry leaves
  • 1/2 Cup Grated coconut
  • 3-4 Tbsp Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • 1 Tsp Sugar (Optional)
  • 2 Tsp Lemon Juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 Tbsp Oil

Poha/ Avalakki Chitranna

Method:

Wash the Poha several times till the water is clean and clear. Drain the water completely and keep aside for 15-20 minutes.
Check after 10 minutes to see if the poha is not too hard. If you feel the poha is too hard, then sprinkle some water and mix well. Keep aside.
In the mean time, heat the oil in a thick bottom pan.
Add Mustard and allow spluttering, then add peanut and fry till almost done.
Now add the Urad dal and fry till it turns golden brown
Add Onion, green chillies, curry leaves and sugar. Stir fry till onion is translucent.
Add the grated coconut, coriander leaves, lemon juice and salt and mix well.
Mix in the poha. Serve as a breakfast or a evening snack.

  1. We have the kandha(Potato) poha in Maharashtra…Adding small pieces of Poha to this along with turmeric is our speciality.
