Naadan Kadala Curry
2-3 Servings ~ 30 minutes
  • 1 Bowl Black channa (soaked overnight)
  • 1 Onion - Diced
  • 1 Tomato - Chopped
  • 2 Green Chilli - Chopped
  • 1 Tsp Red chilly Powder
  • 1 Tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 Tsp Garam masala Powder
  • ½ Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Tsp Coriander leaves - Chopped
  • 5 Tbsp Grated Coconut
  • 1 piece Ginger
  • 4 Pods Garlic
  • 2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 String Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tbsp Oil

Naadan kadla curry – Black Channa Curry

A must try traditional Kerala dish. Yummy….


-In a pressure cooker add Black channa, coriander powder, turmeric powder, chilly powder, garam masala, onion, salt & coriander leaves. Pour water till it covers the channa. Pressure cook for up to 5 whistles.
– Dry roast coconut, ginger, garlic, green chillies, tomato and turmeric powder. Make a fine paste of this in a blender using water.
-Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves and allow spluttering of mustard seeds.
-Add the boiled channa mixture and the coconut paste in to the pan. Allow to boil.
-Serve hot with Puttu, Appam & Idiyappam.
