Daal Makhni


1 cup of whole urad dal
1 tbsp rajma
1 onion,finely chopped
1 tomato,finely chopped
1 ginger piece
2-3 green chillies,finely chopped
Chopped coriander leaves
4-5 flakes garlic paste
1/2 cup fresh cream
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp jeera
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
Red chilli powder to taste
1/2 tsp coriander powder
Salt to taste
1/2 cup stirred curd


-Soak rajma in water overnight.
-Add water & little salt & pressure cook rajma & urad dal till soft for about 20-25 minutes.
-Mash & boil again for 15-20 minutes & add curd & cream to the dal.
-Now in a pan,heat oil,splutter jeera & add garlic paste,fry till light brown.
-Add onions & fry till golden brown.
-Now add ginger,green chillies & tomatoes & fry till tomatoes soften.
-Now add dry masalas(turmeric,coriander,chilli powders & salt) & fry again for a moment.
-Add dal & stir on medium flame.As soon as it starts boiling remove from the gas.
-Sprinkle garam masala powder & garnish daal makhni with coriander & add butter.
-Serve daal makhni hot with laccha paratha,naan or rice.
